Description: One of the best ways to learn the basics of adobe construction is to build an horno (earth oven). All of the basic steps of adobe house construction are covered in the oven build:
We install a simple foundation for the oven (e.g. using compacted gravel).
Adobe bricks and mortar are used to build the walls of the oven base.
When the base is finished we install an oven floor which serves as the baking surface of the oven.
An adobe dome technique is used to build the oven dome.
The oven is finished with a natural earthen plaster.
The workshop is being held at a very special property in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Olive Rush Historic Artist Home & Garden is a museum in the former home of the artist Olive Rush, located on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The museum is dedicated to showing her paintings, frescos, and furnishings as well as providing a lively community art center for locals and visitors alike.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to site safety protocols this workshop will be limited to a maximum of 10 participants. The museum will be providing lunch for everyone participating on all three days.
